Frequently Asked Questions & Helpful Information for Students
Where is the studio located?
We are located at 230 Franklin Rd, at The Factory in Franklin, in Building 8. Our studio front door is located in the alleyway between Third Coast Clay and the Carousel of Dreams. You can also enter through our side door, inside Building 8, near the entrance for Fork of the South. You can find specific directions and a sitemap of the Factory here. The closest parking is in the East Lot, the large parking lot with the Farmer’s Market shed.
Do I have to preregister or can I sign up in person?
To save time, and so we know you are coming to class, we recommend booking your class online, but you are also welcome to sign up in person. In that case please leave enough time to register before the scheduled class start time.
When is the studio open? When should I arrive for class?
Typically, the studio is open and ready for students to arrive no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. If you are new to the studio (especially if you’re new to yoga!) or need to register in person, please arrive closer to 10-15 minutes before the start time. To respect everyone’s potentially busy schedules, please plan enough time so that you are set up and ready to practice at the schedule start time. 5 minutes early is a good rule of thumb if you just need to walk in and unroll the mat. Occasionally, parking can be full at The Factory, therefore we suggest leaving at least a few minutes buffer as it might take a few minutes to park.
Besides class times, we typically have studio & boutique open hours Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons, plus Saturday all day.
What happens if I’m late or miss my class?
For safety and security, we must lock the exterior doors of the studio when class begins, unless the boutique is attended, but this is usually not the case. To respect everyone’s time and make the most of class, we try to start class promptly on time and end promptly as scheduled.
We understand life (and traffic!) happens. If you are going to be late (within 5 minutes) or cutting it very close, it’s a good idea to call the studio at (615) 614-3091. That way, the teacher can either hold the door or let you know how to enter after the class begins. If you know you are not going to make it, it’s a good idea to log in to your account to cancel your booking, so we are not waiting for you.
Autopay members and class pack holders can have classes returned for another time, if they make reasonable attempt to notify us in advance. Classes cancelled online before 1 hour of class time are automatically returned.
Do you have yoga mats available? What about props?
Yes, we have 11 studio mats to borrow which are complimentary, first come first serve. We also have a selection of yoga mats and rugs for purchase. We have everything else
What should I wear to class?
Comfortable, somewhat stretchy clothes you can move in! Sometimes tops that are very loose or oversized can get in the way, but ultimately as long as you are comfortable, whatever you want to wear is perfect. We recommend you take your socks off, for best traction, but that’s ultimately up to you.
Do I have to be flexible?
No, not at all! The only requirement to start a yoga practice is a willingness to try. Over time, consistent practice may improve one’s flexibility in body and mind.
Do you have changing rooms?
Yes, we have a changing room inside the studio.
Do you offer work exchange or discounts?
A limited number of work exchange shifts may be available. Please contact the studio to learn more and apply. The number one criteria for work exchange is consistent schedule. Number two criteria is interest in yoga and willingness to be a part of our community by taking class at least semi regularly. We also offer 20% student (with valid ID) and senior (55+) discounts, please inquire to activate.
Do you have kids classes? Can my child practice yoga with me?
For students age 15 and under, it could be allowed on a case by case basis with parent supervision/ approval. The basic criteria for having children in group yoga classes is: they should be interested in practice, able to pay attention and follow instructions more or less for 1 hour, and they should not disrupt the teacher or any other students. Students 16+ are welcome to join classes on their own. At this moment we don’t have dedicated kids yoga classes on the schedule (we hope to add it back spring/summer 2026), but they can be arranged privately as a one off or on an ongoing basiiis. Please contact the studio to book private kids yoga sessions, for prior approval for kids' practice, or with any questions.
I’m new to yoga! Where should I start? Are there beginner friendly classes?
Our classes are designed for all levels, welcoming both beginners and experienced students to practice together. We offer a variety of slower-paced, meditation-focused classes such as Stretch and Lengthen, Gentle Yoga, Alignment Foundation, Restorative, and Yin. If you are open to a more athletic, challenging experience, you might try a Vinyasa class, but give it a few tries before you write it off as “too hard” … learning yoga can be like learning a new language and takes time! Primary Flow is also a great place to start as details are given “how to do” each pose, with modifications, but it’s also quite a physical journey, half standing postures, half seated, backbending, and relaxation. If you are new to yoga, please arrive a few minutes early & let your instructor know before the class so we can best support your experience.
Are there advanced level classes?
Our classes are open to all levels, allowing students with varying degrees of experience to practice together. If you're looking for a class with more dynamic movement, you might enjoy Primary Flow, Jivamukti, or Vinyasa. Or, book a private session to tailor class specifically to you!
Do you have hot yoga? What is the temperature of the yoga room?
We offer lightly heated (85℉) classes at 7am Monday, and 5:30pm Wednesday. Generally, the room is between 72-74 degrees. Our goal is that the shala will never feel overly air conditioned, rather, comfortable for practice. You may very well get warm during practice, which is a very healthy thing!
Does Yoga go against any religion? Is Yoga a spiritual practice? Is Yoga inherently Hindu? Can Christians practice Yoga?
Yes, yoga is a spiritual practice, as in, it may facilitate a greater connection with your spirit. Though Yoga originated in India and thus is traditionally connected to Indian spirituality, yoga practice is not inherently a Hindu practice, especially not in a secretive way. Some classes will include principles from yoga philosophy, presented in a non-dogmatic way as they might be relevant to a modern life, but other classes are almost totally physical and have very little mention of any philosophy. In itself, yoga is not a religion and can be practiced by practitioners of all faiths. In fact, practicing yoga might create space for a deeper individual connection to their own spiritual practice. If you are concerned about this aspect of practice in any way, we welcome you to reach out to us via email to find a time to discuss your concerns.
Are you hiring? Can I teach at Ground Floor Yoga?
We are always happy to connect with experienced, embodied yoga teachers who walk the walk and are interested in leading students not only in asana practice, but beyond the physical. If that sounds like you, please get in touch!
